Equinox Book Review
Now that we finally have a Pakistani author who
writes her way through romance cum fantasy fiction, we can have something to
cherish about and break free from the anti-Pakistan clutter which brands the
country as a terrorist nation! Terrorists! Ohhhh … help! Terrorists! Well,
Equinox says, ‘Hell no! There are better things to talk about from an emerging
author’s point of view that all the negative trash … here you go, fantasy
fiction is here with a bang, written by a published Pakistani author.’ It is
the first time a Pakistani author has written under this genre so it’s
something to be proud of.
To be honest, there is always a first time to do
something worthwhile, especially for drawing a positive image of your country
and Hina has done just the right job in Equinox, not to mention her somewhat
personal affair with her own book character, Richard Chase. :P However, the way
she has given importance to minute details through a descriptive story writing for each and every character is simply amazing. Her attempt at this debut novel
is worth commending and brings the reading at a point where he/she thinks that
she has been writing since ages, that too into perfection.
As I read through the book, I realised how Hina’s
writing has been a reflection of her own splendid schooling and life in different
parts of the world. Though the concept of charity seemed somewhat overstated
into exponential philanthropy but then again it’s fantasy fiction. Sometimes you
would feel overwhelmed by the extra details of April and Richard’s love affair
and might want to opt for a coffee break but there is no way you would want to
quit the book at all.
What’s interesting is the shadow being talked about
which April doesn’t know of until the end and the entire mystery revolves
around this mischievous cum notorious thing. On the other hand, the life of the
main character in a convent setup acquaints the reader with the mannerism of
orthodox schooling which is something of great value, eventually; it’s an
amalgamation of orthodox cum modern school setup … tech savvy aren’t we?
